The feature to reach users within a week
Reliance Jio, one of the top telecom service providers in India might have a solution for the biggest challenge faced by many cellular service users. That is bad quality of voice calls and the rate of abruptly calling drops. The company announced on Wednesday that it will provide support voice and video calling on Wi-Fi bandwidth. The company only provide a 4G network in the country and said it has started to provide this feature and all the users in India supposedly to reach them within a week.
This was a move made by the company after Airtel announced to roll-out the service of calls over Wi-Fi. As of now, Airtel has around 260 million subscribers and only providing this feature in big metro cities. Both the companies are not charging their customers for this additional service and the users can make calls across networks using Wi-Fi.
Jio’s Wi-Fi calling functionality will support any Wi-Fi network
Calling through Wi-Fi is one of the prevalent functions that allow customers to make a phone call using the wireless internet connectivity. The calls made through Wi-Fi have fared better than the cellular network on the phones. Similar services were availed in the US by T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T.
The calls over the internet are not a new thing in India, the messaging platform such as WhatsApp is been in the market for several years. Jio has an advantage over its competitor in this file as it supports many different models of smartphones from different manufacturers. Its spokesperson told the press that Jio’s Wi-Fi calling functionality will work on any Wi-Fi network.
