As the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive is about to start in India, from the 1st of April. The food and product delivery giant of India, Swiggy has announced that they are offering to cover the vaccination expenses of more than 2 lakh delivery partners.
Swiggy is now a major player in the country’s food delivery industry. As the lockdown has been lifted the company wishes to provide the option for vaccination to its delivery partners. The company has also promised compensation for leaves to the employees that opt-in for the vaccination.
Plan of action
Swiggy has currently planned to begin the vaccination drive with 5,500 of their delivery partners, aged above 45 years. By the end of this program, they aim to provide the choice of vaccination to 2 lakh more Swiggy delivery partners.
Swiggy has also urged the vaccinating authorities to prioritize the vaccination of all delivery partners, as they still continue to provide their services. The company has also begun communicating and creating awareness with the help of a healthcare partner. By conducting counseling sessions and workshops for their delivery partners Swiggy aims to make their delivery partners informed about the vaccination.
The role of delivery personnel amid the lockdown
In the past year, several delivery firms emerged in India during the period of lockdown. These companies delivered food, groceries, and other essentials to millions of Indians throughout the pandemic.
Delivery partners of companies including Swiggy, Zomato, and Dunzo, played a vital role when they took up the job amid the pandemic. For now, Swiggy is the only organization that has announced an initiative for vaccination of their essential service providers. But, the other organizations are also expected to cater soon.
