First-of-its-kind certification program
The smartphone maker, Samsung has partnered with 8K Association (8KA) to launch a certification program called 8KA Certification Program. The program is a first-of-its-kind certification program designed to distinguish 8K-enabled televisions and other devices. This collaboration marks another landmark for Samsung’s QLED 8 K, as it will be one of the first TVs this year to be accredited by the 8KA with the new certification logo.
“We are proud to be one of the founding members of the 8K Association and to have our new lineup of QLED 8K TVs certified by the program,” said Hyogun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our goal is to provide consumers with the ability to easily identify premium 8K displays from other devices when making purchasing decisions. Home entertainment and TVs are important investments for many of our consumers, and we hope that the 8KA Certification Logo will help guide them.”
8KA certification program details
The 8KA certification program’s aim is to distinguish between 4K and 8K resolution television. In order to be accepted by this program, television has to have certain parameters other than native 8 K resolution. These parameters are color, contrast, and high dynamic range, the native resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, a minimum peak brightness of 600nits, support for HDMI 2.1 image transmission, and support for HVEC or high-efficiency video codec. Moreover, these parameters will be tested individually by 8KA and the televisions that have all these parameters will get certified.
Plans for the year 2020
This year, 8KA plans to increase educational programming efforts across many diverse industries in order to promote member participation, innovation and content development within the 8K ecosystem. The company further anticipates the adoption of 8K distribution and home adoption.
