OnePlus Nord CE2: Another failed Attempt from OnePlus in mid-range Segment?

Follow Us:

The mid-range smartphone market in India has been growing leaps and bounds over the past few years. While the arrival of 4G in 2016-17 kick-started the smartphone revolution in India, the recent onset of the COVID-19 has significantly accelerated the demand for mid-range smartphones.

Alongside the popular mid-range smartphone manufacturers like Redmi, Realme, Oppo, Vivo, etc., premiere companies like Samsung, OnePlus are also catering to the users’ needs with their new mid-range launches. The recently launched OnePlus Nord CE2 is hailed by the company as a smartphone that offers ‘A little more than you’d expect’.  Much like its predecessor—OnePlus Nord CE—the newly launched Nord CE2 is also receiving mixed reviews from the audience.

Does it really stand out?

The Nord CE2 is perhaps not the first OnePlus smartphone in the mid-range segment. Following the success of its flagship phones, the company has lately been trying to target the audience in the mid-range segment with its smartphones like OnePlus Nord, OnePlus Nord 2, and OnePlus Nord CE. The latest Nord CE2 is another addition to the series.

Although the Oxygen OS—OnePlus’s signature operating system—is present in all these smartphones, the company needs to focus on several other things as well. The alert slider—one of OnePlus’s exclusive features—is missing in all these phones. Moreover, the camera could have been better as some of the other options in the segment offer comparatively better camera.

Furthermore, the design could have been better as the competitor smartphones in the segment are paying more attention-to-detail in their designs. Barring some features like the User experience, display, and processor, the Nord CE2 and its predecessors somehow do not stand out as the best buys in the mid-range segment.

Currently, there are several better options available at this price point.

Best Smartphones in the Mid-range Segment

  • iQOO Z5
  • Motorola Edge 20 Fusion
  • Samsung Galaxy M51
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro Max 5G

What does the Future Hold?

With new smartphones launching every day, the competition in the mid-range market is scaling extensively. With reputed brands like OnePlus struggling to find their way in the market, brands have to think differently and tick numerous boxes in order to stand out from the rest.
