All new cases coming from abroad
Mainland China has seen a considerable drop in its daily tally of new coronavirus cases. All the new cases of coronavirus are found to be the travellers coming from abroad. The capital Beijing has ramped up measures to contain the number of infections arriving from abroad. On Sunday, China confirmed 39 new cases, down from 46 a day earlier. All of them were the travellers arriving from abroad. Many of them were the Chinese students returning home.
Expanding the Preventive Measures
To contain the imported infections, the city of Beijing has expanded measures by diverting all international flights arriving from Monday to other airports in other cities, including Shanghai and as far west as Xian. The passengers will undergo virus screening on these airports. Number of imported cases in Beijing was reduced to 10 from 13. On March 18, the infections from abroad in the city hit an all-time high of 21. Expanding a program that previously only applied to those coming from heavily affected countries, Shanghai and Guangzhou have also said all arriving passengers will undergo tests to screen for the coronavirus.
No New Locally transmitted Infections
The country saw no new locally transmitted infections and as a result, authorities have eased tough lockdown measures in Wuhan, capital of central Hubei Province. With other cities and areas classified as low-risk, Downtown Wuhan remains the only high-risk area in the Hubei Province. People can enter the Wuhan city if they are certified healthy and have no fever. Hubei residents who are in Wuhan can also apply to leave the city, but they have to go through a test for the virus. As of Sunday, the total accumulated number of confirmed cases in Mainland China was 81,093 out of which the death toll was figured to be 3,270.
