Securing Position in Software Sector
Road collisions have been a great concern for the common public as well as the government bodies. Road accidents have been considered as one of the major causes of deaths, increasing the safety concern for pedestrians as well as riders.
To manage the issue, LG Electronics has unveiled its new application to improve the safety of pedestrians. With the launch of its new software application, the electronics giant aims to secure a position in the software arena after retiring from the smartphone business.
LG’s application for pedestrian safety
On 10 June 2021, LG Electronics unveiled its new application—LG’s Soft V2X—for the safety of pedestrians. The acronym V2X implies ‘Vehicle To Everything’ and is LG’s smartphone solution to pedestrian safety and protection against collisions. The app will warn users of collision risks between pedestrians and vehicles, as well as car-to-car crashes, as a thoughtful measure to prevent road accidents. The application will analyze data by detecting users’ location, the direction of movement, and speed on the cloud system in real-time. It will accordingly alert users with sound, vibration, and warning messages in case there is a risk of collision.
Usefulness of the application
LG’s Soft V2X will also utilize smart CCTVs to alert users of possible collisions with people or vehicles who have no access or avail to the application. The app will be useful in preventing accidents and/or collisions concerning areas coming from vehicle blind spots. It will also issue an alert signal during harsh weather conditions such as heavy rainfall or snowfall. According to reports by LG Electronics, its pedestrian safety solution is compatible with the country’s Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) in order to procure information on road traffic and driving conditions.
LG’s take in the software arena
The launch of its mobile application is a take on securing a distinctive position in the mobile application development sector. LG said it will expand partnerships with other companies and conduct various demonstration projects before commercializing the LG’s Soft V2X. The company had cited that its strategic decision to exit from the competitive smartphone sector will enable the company to focus resources in growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence, and business-to-business solutions, as well as platforms and services.
LG’s exit from the smartphone business
In April 2021, the South Korean electronics company had opted for retirement from its long-run smartphone business. The company announced its departure through its newsroom blog by stating that the exit decision was approved by LG’s board of directors. LG has established itself as a successful electronic company on a global front and is counted amongst one of the successful electronics companies in the world.
