Bengaluru based multinational corporation, Infosys recently invested an estimated $1.5mn through its Infosys Innovation Fund in a data discovery and data governance software provider firm, Waterline Data Science.
Waterline Data Science is a data management firm which provides services to companies for organizing, storing, filtering and discovering their data. It is based on metadata discovery platform.
Infosys had previously invested $4 million to buy stakes in the data management company. As per the report filed with the stock exchange, Infy has bagged a minor share of less than 20%.
The filing suggested that, Waterline provides data scientists and business analysts a self-service data catalogue to help discover, understand and provision data, and an automated data inventory that enables agile data governance across metadata, data quality and data lineage.
In 2015, the multinational company had built a $500 million Innovation Fund. This fund was basically meant for investing in startup companies which are working on current technologies and platforms such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and disruptive innovation technologies. So far, Infosys has financed a total of 11 IT companies.
