The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) has introduced BTech course on AI from the year 2019-2020
According to the press release by IIT, Hyderabad, the institute claims to be the first Indian educational institute to offer a complete BTech program in AI. The institute has already offering an MTech Post Graduation AI program.
World’s 3rd AI Graduation Course
IIT-H has likely become the third institute globally after US-based Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
For the first year 2019-2020, the institute will intake only 20 students through JEE-Advanced, a joint entrance examination conducted by the seven Zonal Coordinating IITs in India.
Stating the importance of the course, IIT-H Director, Prof UB Desai said, “The basic aim is to create a complete ecosystem for artificial intelligence academics and research at IIT-Hyderabad. This involves BTech, MTech and different minor programs in AI. Moreover, the R&D will be strongly entwined with academics.”
BTech in AI Course syllabus
The program will include computer science algorithms, electrical engineering’s signal processing, robotics from mechanical engineering and mathematical foundations.
The course will also comprise application verticals like healthcare, agriculture, and smart mobility.
The ethical impact of AI and its technologies on trending areas like privacy, bias and related aspects will be some key focus factors of this BTech program. Likewise, as per the press release the students can also enroll for minor programs in AI.
Vineeth N Balasubramanian, an associate professor of computer science department at IIT-H said, “It will provide training on various aspects of AI, ranging from technical ones like machine learning algorithms to ethical issues as well. It will make our students very sought after by the Industry as their training will be comprehensive and well-rounded when working on smart AI-based technology solutions.”
