Swiss multinational company, Bata has its major holding company in India. As per the recent retail reports, Bata India is expected to become number one by the end of 2018 beating the current ruler Bata Italy.
Director Christine Bata Schmidt of Bata Shoe Organization (BSO) has claimed, “India is the second most important market. But, it is growing so fast that probably it will be the most important market by end of this year in terms of turnover.”
At the initiation event of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign, Schmidt commented on the rising market of BSO in India. In spite of BSO’s business ventures covering 70 countries, India is estimated to top the charts thereby becoming a significant retail seller.
As a part of the CSR activity, designer ballerinas were manufactured with hand-made drawings made by school children through Bata Children’s Program (BCP). Bata will donate Rs. 65 from the income generated on each pair of ballerina shoes towards the girl child education for one year. KC Mahindra Education Trust and Naandi Foundation will join hands with Bata to overlook the management of the Ballerina Project.
Till December 2017, Bata India had generated a revenue of Rs 674 crores (6.2% rise) than the preceding year. Further, the company plans on focusing its expansion through digitally enhanced online marketing for the merchandise.
Schmidt added, “The interesting thing about digital is that there are some pure digital players in the market. They have been growing incredibly fast. The question is how sustainable is that? There are some really interesting studies being done. It shows digital sales go up if companies have a store, and it goes down if they close the store. It is because the brand disappears from the consumers’ vision,”
Currently, there are 1,200 Bata stores distributed across India.
