Red octopus teaching in a classroom
5 September is celebrated as teachers’ day in all over India and as a part of the tribute to the educators Google animated doodle. The doodle features a red octopus teaching in a classroom set underwater. The octopus is standing in front of a blackboard and using its tentacles; he is trying to solve mathematical equations teaching geometry. Apart from mathematics, he is teaching music and performing experiments. The tentacle is a mark of how dynamic is a teacher’s personality.
Remembering Dr. Radhakrishnan: First Vice President of India
Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on 5 September in honor of former president Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary. Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in Tamil Nadu, a perfect teacher and supporter of education. From 1952 to 1962, he served as the first Vice President of India and from 1962 to 1967 as the second President of India.
In 1954, Dr. Radhakrishnan was awarded Bharat Ratna- the highest civilian award in India. For his efforts and hard work in education, he was nominated five times for Nobel Prize in Literature. He taught at several prestigious educational institutions including Calcutta University and Presidency College.
President Ram Nath Kovind felicitates 46 teachers
Celebrating this auspicious occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind will felicitate 46 teachers from the country with National Teachers’ Award at an event in Delhi.
This year will mark the 61st year of the National Teacher’s Award. From 6 May to 25 June, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had received nominations. The nominated teachers were selected at three different stages.
However, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5 October all over the world designated by UNESCO. This day is also marked to tribute teachers and educators all around the world. Though, some get confused 5 September with Guru Purnima, a Hindu-Buddhist festival which celebrates to mark the pure relationship between student and teachers.
